Travel with confidence through Cardiff Airport

Now more than ever, we want to ensure everyone feels safe when travelling through Cardiff Airport, and we've been working with all our partners including our airlines, shops, cafes and restaurants, plus UK Border Force to make sure we all work together to achieve this.

We've gone over and above the guidelines from both UK and Welsh Governments and the following measures have been put in place at Cardiff Airport:

What measures are in place at Cardiff Airport?

Now more than ever, we want to ensure everyone feels safe when travelling through Cardiff Airport, and we've been working with all our partners including our airlines, shops, cafes and restaurants, plus UK Border Force to make sure we all work together to achieve this.

We've gone over and above the guidelines from both UK and Welsh Governments and the following measures have been put in place at Cardiff Airport. (Click here to view our inforgraphic) 

1. Enhanced cleaning of the whole Airport throughout the day and night
2. More hand sanitiser stations added throughout the Airport
3. Social distancing for staff and customers, keeping 2m wherever possible
4. New protective screens in areas such as check in, boarding gates and immigration desks
5. Increased signage and floor markings to help everyone understand the changes to the Airport and remind everyone about the safety measures
6. Displays of all the relevant UK and Welsh Government advice and information
7. Introduced a team of ‘Airport Stewards’ to help customers with the changes throughout the terminal and to be on hand to answer any questions
8. All Airport teams are wearing appropriate PPE as required, including face coverings in all areas
9. We're asking passengers to wear face coverings when travelling through the Airport before they fly and when they land at Cardiff 
10. Encouraging contactless payments throughout the Airport where possible
11. Asking only customers and Cardiff Airport team to enter the terminal buildings
12. Training Airport teams about COVID-19 and the safety measures that have been put in place.

Updates on international travel

A traffic light system for international travel was introduced in Wales from 17th May 2021. It means that there are different requirements for passengers depending on where you have traveled from.

From 19th July vaccinated travellers from Amber list countries will no longer be required to quarantine on arrival into Wales. 

Passengers can use the NHS COVID Pass to show their vaccination status on their phone, laptop or tablet before they travel. COVID 19 vaccination status is available if you:

  • have had the COVID-19 vaccine
  • were vaccinated in Wales
  • are aged 16 and over

‘Travel Safe’ guidance for passengers travelling through Cardiff Airport

All customers are advised to check the relevant Welsh Government travel regulations for information on travelling to and from Wales, as well as FCDO advice on international travel. 

Customers are also advised to check with their airline for the latest information on their flight, and to check their airline’s safety guidelines as these may vary. If you are travelling, you must also check the entry requirements for the country you are travelling to, and any local restrictions that are in place. Further information can be found via your airline and the FCDO website.

In addition to the changes we’ve made at the Airport, to help keep everyone healthy and safe, we’re asking passengers to do the following: 

Due to the new measures in place, customers are advised to allow plenty of time to travel through the Airport.

 

Do I have to self-isolate after flying into Cardiff Airport from abroad?

Are COVID-19 testing facilities available at the Airport?

Many destinations require passengers travelling to have a negative test result to enter the country or to reduce quarantine time. Cardiff Airport has partnered with Nuffield Health to provide a COVID-19 testing facility at the Airport, allowing customers to get tested before their flight.

Nuffield Health is offering tests required for international travel. Please ensure that you book the correct type of test that meets your destination’s entry requirements.

If you suspect you may have Coronavirus, or are displaying symptoms of COVID-19, please do not travel to the Airport. In this case, you must follow Public Health Wales advice, self-isolate and book an NHS COVID-19 test. Please click here for guidance.

Travellers must not use NHS testing facilities for travel-related purposes.

Are shops open at the Airport?

Shops and catering outlets have limited opening hours based on the flying programme.

Vending machines are available throughout the terminal to purchase drinks and snacks.

Are the Executive and Business Lounges open?

The 51° Executive Lounge is currently closed until further notice. If you have pre-booked and paid for the Executive Lounge, and require a refund, please contact the company used to make the booking.

Please contact executivelounge@cwl.aero if you booked directly through the Cardiff Airport website. Refunds will be processed as quickly as possible. Please bear with us whilst we process refunds as they are taking a little longer than usual.

Are car parks open?

Car parking in Long Stay and Short Stay is available to pre-book. Meet and Greet parking is currently unavailable to book until further notice.

 

 

I have pre-booked car parking, what happens if my flight is cancelled or changed?

If you have pre-booked and paid for car parking in advance should contact the company used to make the booking.

If your flight is cancelled or If you have amended the dates of your trip, please contact the company that you made the booking with.

If you booked your parking with Holiday Extras, or through the Cardiff Airport website, please contact 0871 360 1100. 

Can I hire a car?

Car hire is available- please pre-book prior to arrival. For further information please contact the car hire company direct.

Is Special Assistance still available?

Yes, our PRM/Special Assistance services are available should you need them. Our PRM desk is located in the check in hall, and the entrance is located to the right of the main terminal entrance. If you require Special Assistance, please book this as normal through your airline or tour operator. More information is available here.

Can I take public transport to and from the Airport?

The 905 rail link bus is now operating. Please visit the NAT website for timteable and further information.

Transport for Wales are operating a reduced timetable for rail travel. Please visit their website for more details and train times.

The Traws Cymru T9 bus service between the Airport and Cardiff City Centre is currently not operating until further notice.

Are taxis available?

Our on-site taxi partner, Flightlink, will be operating a taxi service for arriving flights. Please visit their website for more details and to book.

Are smoking facilities available?

There are smoking areas located outside the check in hall.

The smoking shelter after security will be open, but with social distancing measures in place.

What do I do if I feel unwell at the Airport?

If you feel unwell or are displaying any COVID-19 symptoms, please do not travel to the Airport. However, if you begin to feel unwell at the Airport please make yourself known to one of our team who will be able to assist you.

Can I use the e-Passport gates on arrival into Cardiff Airport?

The e-Passport gates are currently unavailable until further notice. On arrival at the UK Border, please proceed to a kiosk and present your passport. More information on arriving into the UK can be found here. https://www.gov.uk/uk-border-control
