Cardiff Airport wraps up the year with a day of festive fun

Special festive celebrations got underway at Cardiff Airport today, adding a touch of Christmas sparkle to our customers’ journeys.

Throughout the day a programme of seasonal treats took place in and around the terminal, as part of the team’s special commitment this year to making it a Christmas to remember for our staff and customers.

To bring a splash of Christmas colour the Cardiff Airport team and even some of our airlines donned their best and worst festive jumpers to raise money for Save the Children.

The morning was off to a cheery start with a performance from the Better Together Choir, based at EE Merthyr. The 40-strong choir of voices, led by Inspire Me, filled the terminal with upbeat Christmas songs, welcoming customers who are checking in and heading off in search of winter sun.

We also welcomed a class of pupils from Ysgol Gymraeg Dewi Sant in Llantwit Major to celebrate their classmate Matilda Godsell, whose beautiful design won this year’s Christmas card design competition.

Tilly, 9, and her classmates visited the Airport for an educational visit where they met our firefighters, had a tour the fire station and saw our fire appliances in action before heading back to the terminal for a check-in experience with boarding cards and passports. There was even a visit from a special guest visitor…..

In the afternoon we welcomed singers from Dwr-y Felin Comprehensive School for more Christmas classics around the tree, while family and friends waiting in Arrivals were given special message boards to welcome their loved ones just like in the festive favourite film Love Actually.

Deb Bowen Rees, CEO of Cardiff Airport, said: “The team has made a huge effort to come together this year and spread Christmas cheer among colleagues and our customers.

“This time of year is an opportunity to bring everyone together to celebrate and this year we’ve gone all out! From Christmas jumper days, to staff giveaways, gift collections for charity, school choirs and even a surprise visit from the man himself it’s been a joy to see our customers enjoying the festive fun.”
