Why we think it is important to involve you at this early stage

We acknowledge that this is an early stage of the development of your Airport and we are thinking long term.

Some people will understandably want more detail about our proposals, such as cost, programme and likely environmental impacts.

Whilst we don’t have all the answers now, we want to involve as many as people in helping shape our plans for the future of the Airport, which means thinking about what you want and where you want us to go by 2040.

The UK Government recommends that airport operators consult on proposed changes to Masterplans, and engage more widely with local communities prior to publication, for example liaising more closely with local authorities and also through drop-in sessions and public meetings.

Masterplans will not have any statutory basis unless they are subject to the relevant plan-making provisions. In Wales, once the Masterplan has been finalised it should be published and otherwise disseminated to all relevant authorities. Published Masterplans should then inform the preparation of Local Development Plans.

Engagement with the Vale of Glamorgan Council as the relevant Local Planning Authority has helped inform the development of the Masterplan and it is intended that it be adopted as Supplementary Planning Guidance to help update the Local Development Plan for the area.

Good engagement and stakeholder liaison represents best practice and demonstrates our commitment to involvement and collaboration, as is advocated in the ways of working directed by the Wellbeing and Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.

A Participation Report will summarise the events and your comments (anonymously), which will help us explain how your feedback has informed the published Masterplan.
