Singapore

Much more than just a layover stop, Singapore has a lot to offer tourists who decide to make it their next vacation destination. Full of architectural wonder, combining gardens and towering skyscrapers, the city is an embodiment of the coexistence of nature and technology.

Singapore is a melting pot of cultures where traditions from across the globe come together seamlessly to give the city’s architecture and cuisine their unique character. From the numerous places of worship scattered throughout the city, such as churches, mosques and temples, to the festivals dedicated to music, food and languages from across Asia, visitors can be assured of a diverse and immersive experience.

Also known as ‘Garden City’, nearly half of Singapore is covered in greenery, taking the form of both nature reserves and urban parks. In the midst of the bustling city travellers can find one of the top attractions in Singapore, ‘Gardens by the Bay’ offers a therapeutic retreat from the urban landscape, where visitors are surrounded by a range of plant species and a myriad of stunning views of the city.

As a natural consequence from both the mixing of cultures and the intertwining of old and new in the city, Singapore’ art scene is incredibly varied. Tourists can marvel at diverse architecture and art forms from a number of eras displayed across museums, galleries, exhibitions and theatres. Art lovers should make sure they have Singapore Art Week in their calendars, as every January the city comes alive with art fairs, exhibitions and installations happening all over.

Arrow
  1. Splash in the sky. The crown jewel of the renowned Marina Bay Sands hotel is hands down its rooftop infinity pool, which stuns both with its size (equal to three Olympic pools!) and the breath-taking view of the Singapore skyline which guests can enjoy during their swim.
  2. Plan for warmth. Another great thing about Singapore is its fairly consistent temperature, with little change month-to-month, meaning there is no such thing as a bad time to visit. Temperatures consistently average approx. 26-27 °C, so planning ahead for a trip to the city is easy.
  3. Join the festivities. There are a number of annual events happening every month of the year in Singapore - food lovers can enjoy a taste of the local cuisine at the Singapore Food Festival, while music buffs will revel in dancing to their heart’s content at the Neon Lights festival. And that’s not even including all of the cultural celebrations, such as Ramadan!
  4. Enjoy sub-sonic sports. If race fans time their visit to the city just right, they will have the chance to watch FORMULA 1 supercars screech past at the spectacular Grand Prix Season Singapore, where the night race intertwines with laser light shows, pyrotechnics and musical performances by world-renowned artists.
  5. Take a walk in the ‘wild’. Animal lovers can visit a number of zoos across the city, all of which offer unique experiences. The landmark Singapore Zoo, for instance, is (almost) cageless, allowing visitors to explore effortlessly between the ‘open’ captivity enclosures where the animals reside. Singapore is also home to Asia’s largest bird park, Jurong Bird Park.
