Munich The hi-tech capital

Direct flights from Cardiff to Munich

Munich is the ultimate destination for a fun-filled and varied escape, as it is a place driven by both technology and age-old customs.

Explore traditional Munich by wandering through the streets, viewing some art in one of the city’s world-class galleries or visiting Munich’s royal palace, The Residenz. Equally visitors can soak up Munich’s modern way of life as it is home to the likes of BMW and Seimens, reinforcing its strong links with technology.

Munich is also well known for its beer, particularly the famous Oktoberfest beer festival. This is held annually and is the perfect event to experience the warmth hospitality of German culture.

  1. Discover BMW. The BMW Museum is a great place to learn about the history of transport technology as you can see how BMW has evolved from their vintage cars.
  2. Experience the Olympics. Although the Olympic Games in Munich was in 1972 the Olympiapark is a wonderful landmark to visit and a great place to soak up the atmosphere in one of the many picnic areas.
  3. Tour the Stadium. This is definitely a must-see for football fans as you are able to go on a tour of the Bayern Munich Stadium. It lasts for around an hour and you can even go in the dressing room!
  4. Go swimming! There is a large freshwater lake on the outskirts of Munich called Lake Starnberg, and this is the ideal place for some swimming in the summer or you can hire a boat!
  5. Enjoy the nightlife. Munich has a very vibrant nightlife that includes a variety of bars, restaurants and clubs to keep you entertained all night!

The Olympic Park and the BMW museum is pretty cool and definitely worth a visit!

Visit the Hofbräuhaus on Plätzl- a world famous beer hall. A bit pricey but worth it.
