Mumbai

Formerly known as Bombay, Mumbai is a destination that will excite the senses of even the most seasoned traveller. The heart of the city contains some of the most incredible colonial-era architecture, but explore a little and you will stumble across bazaars, pretty temples and a wild combination of restaurants to sample Indian food. Mumbai also has a huge ‘green lung’ to the North that is worth exploring to escape the hustle and bustle and to take in some breath-taking scenery and even spot some of India’s wildlife.

1-Marvel at the architecture- Mumbai’s architecture is a truly extraordinary presentation of the colonial era. A must-visit is the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Mumbai’s main railway station. It epitomises Mumai’s energy and is a gorgeous sight when lit up after dark.

2-Tour the city- an early-morning cycle tour through the city. This easy-going ride will take you off the beaten track and you’ll experience the city starting to stir, and finish the cycle at a local café for a typical Southern Indian breakfast.

3-Experience Bollywood! There’s nothing quite like the escapism of Bollywood films, and the studios in Mumbai have created some of the most imaginative motion pictures! Jump on a Bollywood tour to get a look behind-the-scenes.

4-Get lost in ancient temples- take a boat (approx. 1 hr) from the Gateway of India to Elephant Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with temples carved out of the hillside. The temples date back to the 5th century and tell mythical stories- a must-see for culture lovers!

5-Relax in natural beauty- To the North of Mumbai is the Sanjay Ghandi National Park. This lush green landscape is an area of outstanding natural beauty, where you can spot exotic plants and wildlife, even some shy leopards!
