Delhi

Delhi is so much more than just the capital of India and its rich, exotic history, dating back to the 6th century, is presented in a palette of hues and architectural wanders that make up the city’s unique and vibrant identity.

Regarded as a symbol of the thriving present and rich past of India, the awe-inspiring capital has something to offer to adventure seekers and history lovers alike, with no shortage of activities or sightseeing opportunities for every traveller.

One great way tourists can experience the stunning sights of New Delhi is by taking a stroll down Rajpath Boulevard. Also known as the Royal Pathway and Kingsway, the road spans from Rashtrapati Bhawan to the National Stadium, passing through Vijay Chowk and India Gate along the way, banked by lush gardens on both sides.

Each of Delhi’s neighbourhoods feature a designated garden open to the public, such as the must-see Lodi Garden, where travellers can take in the beauty of the sprawling green space and marvel at the historic monuments dating back centuries.

Connaught Place offers a modern shopping experience, complete with a selection of familiar brands and restaurants, while the captivating bazaars of Old Delhi allow tourists to experience the sounds, smells and sights of a traditional Indian market.
  2. Feast your senses. The local food is often named as the best in India – whether you choose to try the offering of the Bhavan canteens or one of the many street food vendors selling local favourites like chai, samosas, and jaleeb, your taste buds are in for a treat!
  3. Have a history lesson in luxurious surroundings. Architecture lovers and history buffs alike need to make a stop at the Imperial Hotel, as it offers the opportunity to both admire the mixture of Victorian, old colonial and art deco styles, and stand where Ghandi, Lord Mountbatten, Jinnah and Nehru met to discuss India’s separation from Bangladesh and Pakistan.
  4. Judge the city by its books. Another fascinating side which makes up Delhi’s identity is its reputation as a publishing hub. Book lovers and academics alike delight in the Delhi Book Fair every January, which features publications from around the world.
  5. Get into the spirit of Delhi. The Indian capital is home to a number of beautiful temples which have become landmarks over time. Visiting these places of worship is a journey throughout history – from the 16th century Humayun’s Tomb which inspired the wondrous Taj Majal to the modern architectural feat that is the Lotus Temple, complete with 27 marble petals which look incredible against the night sky.
