Bordeaux The wine region

Fly from Cardiff to Bordeaux with a one stop connection

Bordeaux is a destination for those seeking a glug of culture and a drop of the region’s best wine. The city is situated in the southwest of France, nestled between lush vineyards in the east and beautiful beaches along the Atlantic coast in the north.

In 2015 Bordeaux was named as ‘European Best Destination’ and it is easy to understand why. Alongside its many vineyards, Bordeaux is a stunning city situated on the River Garonne. Recently it has enjoyed a revival, as architecture has been restored, streets have been pedestrianised and exquisite restaurants and bars have flourished. The city also has a rich history, which has been highlighted through its listing as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

When a traveller experiences the boulevards of Bordeaux, a glass of wine merely becomes a delicious accompaniment.

  2. Go back to school. If you would like to become a wine connoisseur then take a two-hour wine tasting course at Maison du Vin de Bordeaux. After a lesson in Bordeaux you will know enough to impress your friends at the next dinner party!
  3. Hop on a bike. The city is quite flat which makes it the perfect place to hire a bicycle and explore the French city at your own pace. Bordeaux even encourages locals and visitors to travel by bicycle as it has over 580km of cycle tracks.
  4. Climb the tower. In the city centre there is the tower of Saint-Michel which is one of the tallest medieval stone towers in France, and it gives those that venture up the 243 steps a breath-taking view of the city.
  5. Let your hair down. If you would like discover the party in Bordeaux head to the bars and clubs in Les Quais and La Victoire.
