Bangkok A beautiful contradiction

Fly from Cardiff to Bangkok with a one stop connection

Bangkok is a place where two worlds collide. In one glance travellers are immersed in skyscrapers and shopping malls and then in another, they will see temples and streets lined with 100-year old homes. Thailand’s capital is full of surprises and Bangkok always rewards those that accept its beautiful contradictions.

Before Bangkok became a vibrant cosmopolitan city it was a small trading centre with a port community, as it sits on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. The river flows through Bangkok and is a major part of the city as boats run up and down it to transport eager travellers. Alternatively, visitors can travel around the city using the modern SkyTrain.  

Due to the cities diversity, there is an abundance of attractions to keep visitors entertained, but also the opportunity to relax and indulge. Exquisite spas, restaurants and bars are scattered throughout the city and offer a welcome oasis once the city has been explored. 

  1. Tour the temples. Bangkok has a variety of temples which are more than worth a visit, so head for The Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Suthat to experience a day of stunning architecture.
  2. Think out the box. Bangkok has a range of attractions that offer an alternative look at its heritage if you are willing to try something new. For example, visit the Queen Saowapha Snake Farm for a python show.
  3. Explore Chinatown. If you have a free day, you can easily spend it discovering Chinatown as it is full of restaurants, shops and markets. Don’t miss out the Flower Market!
  4. Eat street food. It will be hard to ignore the delicious smells from the street food stalls that line the streets of Bangkok, so definitely taste the cuisine. Khao San Road excels in street food.
  5. Haggle at the markets. Bangkok is famous for its haggling, so don’t be shy and practice your bartering. Markets are a great place to grab a bargain!

Remember to take a fan with you as it is very hot, but avoid ice cubes!
