Charity Support

 

Cardiff Airport is committed to supporting the ‘third sector’ in Wales. We will select one charity to support per year (financial year April – March).   

Criteria:

Preference will be given to charities which fit the following criteria;

  • The Charity must be registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales
  • The Charity must be based in Wales and supporting the Welsh community
  • An Airport employee should have a close connection to the charity.

The Charity must be proactive in utilising Airport support and must agree to promote the Airport through joint PR opportunities.

Selection:

Applications for 2019 have now closed. Please check back in 2020 for information on how to apply. 

To apply, a charity must provide:

  • A proposed activity plan detailing how they wish to utilise Airport support and resources for the good of the charity  
  • Evidence of charitable status

Once the application form has been completed it will be assessed by the Working Group who will shortlist to three potential options based upon the criteria above. The Working Group will inform the charity whether the application has been successful in being shortlisted but will not supply any reasons for non selection and will not enter into any discussions concerning its choice.

All Cardiff Airport staff will be given the option to vote on their preferred Charity, with the Charity getting the most individual votes being selected. The chosen Charity will be notified and publically announced ahead of the start of the financial year. 

Delivery:

The chosen Charity will liaise directly with the Working Group as to the fundraising activities to be undertaken in association with the Airport. 

On going relationships and two way communication is vital to the success of the charity partnership to meet both business and community objectives.

As The Airport Charity of the year they will be given access to the following opportunities plus any others agreed with the airport in advance;

  • Collecting tins and foreign currency donations
  • Collection staff at key specified events during the year e.g. 6 Nations Airlift, Ryder Cup – these will be in landside locations
  • Access to airport passengers for fundraising/ profile raising
  • Access to airport and airport partner staff for fundraising/ profile raising/ volunteering
  • Opportunity to offer payroll giving
  • Opportunity to raise money through recycling IT consumables
  • Selling of merchandise on site at CWL
  • Access to possible auction/ raffle ‘prizes’ from the airport or airport partners
  • Communication of national events/ fundraising initiatives

More strategic support in terms of forum representation is to be considered where both the charity and airports objectives can be achieved.  For example Hijinx working with actors who have learning disabilities to provide on the job training to our team. 

Cardiff Airport will consider match funding any money which is raised by Airport staff for the specified charities through fundraising initiatives.  This match funding will not include money generated by the following;

  • collection tins/ buckets
  • foreign currency donations
  • selling merchandise
  • recycling of IT consumables
  • payroll giving
  • passenger fundraising
  • partner company fundraising

Partner companies may promote their own official charities at Cardiff Airport with the prior consent of the Working Group.
