Welsh passengers are now able to reach even more worldwide destinations from Cardiff Airport via Amsterdam as KLM Royal Dutch Airlines expands its network further from its hub at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
Fukuoka is the third destination KLM service in Japan, after Tokyo and Osaka. With this new route KLM offers a total of 21 weekly frequencies to Japan from the summer of 2013.
Fukuoka is the economic centre of the Kyushu region, located in the south-west of Japan. The region has a total population of around 15 million inhabitants. It is the fourth largest Japanese passenger market to Europe. Every year, 16 million passengers use Fukuoka Airport for domestic and international flights.
The new service will be operated three times a week, departing from Cardiff via Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, arriving into Fukuoka the following day. The return flights will depart from Fukuoka Airport on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays again connecting via Amsterdam and arriving back into Cardiff on the same day.
Flights will be operated with a Boeing 777-200ER, which can seat up to 318 passengers: 35 in World Business Class and 283 in Economy Class
Fukuoka will be the 19th destination available on the KLM network from Cardiff to Asia and the 3rd in Japan after Tokyo and Osaka.
Spencer Birns, Cardiff Airport’s head of commercial operations and air services development commented: “The airline consistently offers Welsh customers a choice of 3 daily flights to and from Wales with connections to their global network at very attractive prices. This is often far more cost and time effective when taking a long haul trip than driving to London and taking flights from Heathrow. We urge Welsh travellers to try using KLM’s long haul flights from Cardiff and connect to the world.”
