Orlando’s back from Cardiff

Published: 05 December 2011

The UK’s largest independent tour operator, Cosmos, has today announced it will operate flights and holidays direct from Cardiff to Orlando, Florida next summer.

The services will run from May to August with prices for 14 night Cosmos packages to the popular US resort starting from £699 per person based on 6 sharing a 2 bedroom apartment on self-catering basis at the 4 diamond-rated Bahama Bay Resort and Spa in Kissimmee.  Fourteen night flight only prices are from just £539 per person in economy or from £759 in premium cabin.

Flights will operate to Orlando Sanford Airport on a Monarch A330 aircraft, departing from Cardiff on Mondays and returning early hours of Tuesday mornings.

Florida is the most popular long haul tourist destination from the UK, with numerous attractions including Disneyworld and Universal Studios, numerous shopping malls and stunning beach resorts, making a two week holiday ideal for families.

Patrick Duffy, Cardiff Airport’s Managing Director commented: “We are delighted with Cosmos’ decision to operate this service to Orlando from Cardiff next summer.

Orlando has been missing from our destination map for a while, and it’s fantastic news that the tour operator has decided to operate from Wales as Florida has always been a popular destination from Cardiff.

In a difficult economic climate Cardiff Airport has succeeded in attracting two new airlines, Vueling and Helvetic Airways, and now the tour operator Cosmos, to the airport over the past nine months. Welsh travellers have indicated their wishes to fly to Orlando directly from Cardiff, and now have an opportunity to turn their wishes into bookings, which will help us encourage airlines and operators to expand their activities further in South Wales.”

Said Hugh Morgan, Managing Director, Tour Operations, Monarch Travel Group which includes tour operator, Cosmos:  “2011 has been a hugely successful year for us in terms of sales to Florida. We have had terrific support from theme parks, hoteliers and other suppliers keen to help us promote the destination and it has really paid off. The time is right to extend our programme to include more regional departures and we are delighted to be able to include Cardiff in this expansion.”

Flights and holidays are now on sale via  or via all Cosmos-appointed travel agents. Further information on 0871 423 8592.

To celebrate today’s announcement, Cardiff Airport is offering complimentary parking to all bookings made for travel on this service before the end of the year. For further information on how to take advantage of the exclusive car parking offer click here.
